Motion Records


Following our vintage reggae heyday in the 1990s and early 2000s, Motion Records refocused as a provider of streaming services for both up-and-coming and established bands. Our policy is to treat artists fairly, and on that basis we pay 55% of the income earned from streaming straight to the originating artists. Compare this with the average of around 20% paid by most labels.

We do this via our partnership with The Orchard, one of the world's leading digital distribution companies. This means your music will be available on all of the major streaming platforms – Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music, Tidal and many more.

If you are a band or artist who has used Bandcamp successfully but steered away from other distribution platforms because of miserly payment deals, with our help you can vastly increase the availabilty of your music, and still receive fair remuneration for your work.

Originally Motion Records' speciality was vintage reggae & dub, where the approach was one of quality rather than quantity. Our Legendary Skatalites In Dub album remains an eternal classic. Selected releases from our back catalogue are still available, but many are now out of licence, and only obtainable second hand.

Punk-era legend Vic Godard and his band Subway Sect released several albums with Motion, including the Subway Sect Singles Anthology. Vic is still actively writing and recording, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with others. He now releases his material on his own label, Gnu Inc. Records.
